The Spanish scholar Michael Servet was burnt at the stake on October 27, 1553 by Protestant reformers. His misdeed: heresy. Witness: John Calvin. Judge: the Protestant council of the city of Geneva. Today, Servet´s misdeed seems slight: he rejected the idea of the Trinity because he said it prevented peace between Christianity, Judaism and Islam.Uwe Birnstein explores Servets life, work and death and finds out why he had to die. Birnstein shows that Servets theology raises questions still relevant for todays discussion on peace.
