Sallust

Sallust (86-35 v. Chr.) ist mit zwei historischen Monographien berühmt geworden, der "Verschwörung des Catilina" und dem "Krieg mit Jugurtha". Außerdem werden Grundzüge und Höhepunkte der Rezeptionsgeschichte präsentiert sowie maßgebliche Positionen der Forschungsliteratur. *** Sallust (8635 BC) is famous for his two historical monographs, the "Conspiracy of Catilina" and the "Jugurthine War". These are the earliest Roman historiographical writings of their kind to survive. This study serves as an introduction to the writer and his work, and examines the historical background as well as the literary tradition of the texts. The foundations and highlights of the works' reception history, and the standard research approaches in the literature are also described.
